Events
Events are the core building block. You can create shared events directly or view events from connected calendars — all in one unified visibility view.
What Are Events?
Events in ComingUp Today represent things that are happening at specific times. They can be appointments, meetings, activities, reminders, or anything else you want to track on a calendar. Events show up in your unified "Coming Up" view alongside events from other people and calendars in your workspace.
How Events Work
- Standalone events: Create events directly in ComingUp Today. These are stored in your workspace and visible to everyone you've shared access with.
- Synced events: When you connect external calendars (like Google Calendar), events from those calendars appear in ComingUp Today as read-only. You can see them, but they're managed in the original calendar.
- Unified view: All events—whether standalone or synced—appear together in your Today, Week, and Month views. No switching between apps or accounts.
- People and contacts: Link events to people in your workspace to see who's involved in what's coming up.
Many shared calendars don't clearly capture who an event is actually for, which is one of the reasons coordination breaks down in families and small groups. We explore that problem in more depth in Why Shared Calendars Break Down for Families.
Use Cases
- Household coordination: Create events for family activities, appointments, and commitments that everyone needs to see.
- Team visibility: See what's coming up across team members' calendars without needing edit access to their calendars.
- Mixed calendar management: Combine events from multiple Google Calendars with local events in one view.
- Care coordination: Track appointments, visits, and responsibilities across caregivers and family members.
