Kiosk and ambient mode
What this feature does
Kiosk requires a signed-in member and loads information for that member's active organization. Changing the active organization changes the household or workspace context shown on the screen.
- Organization-scoped visibility keeps the display tied to the active household or workspace rather than combining information across organizations.
- Read-only supporting access lets the kiosk open Notes, Lists, and Recipes without providing edit controls where those surfaces and content are available.
- Persistent visibility reduces household ambiguity by making coordination signals stable across the day.
- Software-first deployment means ComingUp Today runs on a household-selected, browser-capable screen. ComingUp Today does not sell dedicated display hardware.
Interactive view and ambient rotation
The interactive kiosk centers on Today. After the configured idle delay, ambient mode rotates through enabled surfaces for which relevant content is available: Today, Week, Lists, Notes, Recipes, and Upcoming. Upcoming can move near the front of the rotation when a timed event starts within two hours.
Today
Interactive view for current schedule details and immediate checks.
Week
Ambient slide that shows a wider window of shared commitments.
Upcoming
Brings a timed event forward when it starts within two hours.
Defaults as configurable settings
These are initial settings, not fixed guarantees. A household can change them, and browser, operating-system, and device behavior still applies.
- Idle timeout default 10-minute idle.
- Rotation interval default 90-second slide rotation.
- Night dimming enabled by default from 22:00–06:30 with an 80% night dim amount.
- Temporary wake defaults to 10 minutes after interaction wakes a dimmed night display.
Interaction wake path
- Pointer, touch, and key interaction all return the schedule to interactive display.
- Nearby timed event within two hours can switch to Upcoming first.
- Wake lock is progressive enhancement and can be overridden by browser/OS/device power settings.
Installation, connectivity, and runtime expectations
- Installable PWA and standalone presentation are supported where the browser and platform permit.
- Live household data requires network connectivity and supported browser features.
- Authenticated app/kiosk data is network-backed and is not cached for offline use.
- This is browser-based software for a household-selected screen, not a dedicated hardware product sold by ComingUp Today.
